This blog is for students taking the History of Eighteenth-Century France at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. From time to time I will post relevant links and entries. This will also be the site where I post exam questions.

FINAL EXAM: Fall 2010

Directions: Answer Part A and ONE question from Part B. An adequate response will be 4-5 pages. Your grade will be based on how well you use evidence from the assigned texts, especially the primary documents.

Part A: Describe how the French Revolution was a consequence of the social and cultural changes that took place in France and Europe in the 18th century. Why was France in particular impacted by these changes? How did the Revolution fulfill the ambitions of Enlightenment thinkers? How did it go astray?

Part B:
1) Discuss how the French Revolution evolved from a moderate reform movement to a radical transformation of French society. How did the Terror come about?

2) The French Revolution ushered in the modern era not just in France, but throughout Europe. Discuss how the Revolution caused a drastic rupture with the Old Regime throughout Europe.

  1. So in these essays are we supposed to add a lot of the readings in like with the midterm? Or is it based more on the quality of our answer with some support from the text

  2. The primary sources are kind of important to answering these questions but I think that it could go either way depending on how you choose to answer them. For example, in the discussion of the Terror, the primary sources could really just support your answer but in the original question discussing the Enlightenment, it's really hard to answer it without using the stuff we read.
